A Man and a Snail

"It must have come out because of the rain," the man thought. Now that the rain has stopped, the snail wasn't moving, so at first glance under the dim street light, the man thought it was some defecation of an animal.

"Such hideous creatures... A sac of water and cells innervated by some primitive nerves, merely responding to external stimulus." He began to feel a cruel curiosity growing inside him. It was telling him to burn the snail's tail with the cigarette he was holding. Just as he was about to give in to his desire of resolving his curiosity, he stopped.

He walked away.

For it occurred to him that in the eyes of the divine, he was also nothing worth more than the snail, and yet, he was not harmed.
